Thank God~

I was born in South Korea and raised in an ordinary, traditional Korean family. My father was a pharmacist and my mother was a housewife. I have three brothers. I graduated Ewha Women’s University in Seoul with a major in graphic design and got my Master’s in Advertising from the same college. I married a man who was both a CPA and businessman. Together we had three children. We had a CPA school and office in Seoul, South Korea. In 1998, we moved to the United States.

Our family settled in New York. After we launched a delicatessen business, we were not only the business owners, but we also worked very hard. Our life was like walking a tight-rope. The deli helped us to both learn how to speak English and earn a living.
In my thirties, I came to New York and I have been living here for seventeen years. Eventually we sold the deli. I experimented with many jobs in New York. I have been a: cashier at Dunkin Donuts,  expeditor for an engineering firm, freelance window painter, waitress, tour guide, car wash cashier, art framer, real estate agent, and a manager for a clothing company. I was willing to do anything to survive in America. Living in America, these experiences served as a rude awakening for me. They also served to raise many questions about Korean customs. If you don’t bite into the apple, you will never know how sweet or bitter it is. I bit into the apple. As of today, I have tasted the apple and have found it to be both sweet and bitter.
