We went to Brooklyn to follow up an ad in the Korean newspaper for a sushi business that was for sale. The ad said that store was located near a school. The store was located above a vegetable store. It had a secret door on one side and the store was illegal. A very diligent Korean couple ran the store. The wife makes box lunches and her husband delivers them in Manhattan. He said it takes him ten minutes to drive from Brooklyn to Manhattan. She said that she has plenty of free time in the afternoon and that since they don’t pay taxes, they have been able to save enough money to buy mushroom factory. She said that they didn’t need the business any more and that it was waiting for us. However, when Jack accompanied her husband on his deliveries, he saw how difficult the traffic in Manhattan was and how long it took to make each delivery. He calculated that not many lunches could be delivered on time each day. Maybe that’s why the store was so cheap. And if you get a parking ticket or a summons for a traffic violation, you lose money. We wondered how they could make so much money. The next day we returned to the store for a second and met a Korean Man who had a bad look about him. The woman said that he was a friend of her husband. But when she talked, she had fear in her eyes. We didn’t want to get involved with this man and so left the store. He called us a few days later and asked us why we hadn’t come back to buy the store. We told him that were not interested. We did not yet legal status in the USA. My husband and I passed a famous art school. I would have liked to attend it.
When we got back home, we called Sunhee, a niece of Mr. Lee, and asked her about American colleges. She had told us that many Koreans attend her college. We asked her to show us her college, but she has not yet done so. So, my husband and I drove to the college which is on Long Island. American college are so different from Korean colleges. Their were no stores in front of the college as in Korea. And the campus was huge. We forgot that this was America.

내 머리에서는 새로운 시작이었고,
